"It's said that once all men feelings and qualities gathered together
at one place on Earth. When the BOREDOM complained for the third time,
the INSANITY, as insane as always, proposed:
- Let's play hide-and-seek.
The INTRIGUE rised its eyebrow intrigued and the CURIOSITY, not being
able to restrain itself asked:
- Hide-and-seek? What's that?
- It's a game, explained the INSANITY, in which I close my eyes and
count from one to one million while each of you hide; when I finish
counting, the first one I find will take my place to continue the game.
The ENTHUSIASM danced followed by EUPHORY. The HAPPINESS made so many
jumps with joy that convinced the DOUBT and even the APATHY, who was never
interested in anything.
But not everyone wanted to participate: the TRUTH preferred not to hide.
"What for, if I'm always found at the end?"- it thought. The ARROGANCE said
it was a very silly game (what was actually annoying was the fact that the
idea didn't come from it) and the COWARDICE preferred not to take the risk.
- One, two, three, four... - the INSANITY started to count .
The first one to hide was the HASTE, who fell behind the first rock on
its way. The FAITH climbed to the sky, the ENVY hided itself behind the
shadow of the TRIUMPH who, by its own effort had made to climb at the top of
the highest tree. The GENEROSITY almost failed to hide, because every
place it found seemed perfect to each one of its friends: if it was a
crystal-clear lake, it was ideal to BEAUTY; if it was the top of a tree, was
perfect to SHYNESS; if it was a blowing wind, was splendid to FREEDOM;
finally it hid on a sun ray. The SELFISHNESS, on the other hand, found a
very good place since the beginning of the game: aired, confortable, but
only for one. The LIE hid at the bottom of the ocean (that's a lie! It hid
behind the rainbow!) and the PASSION and the DESIRE, at the center of
volcanos. The FORGETFULNESS ... I can't remember where it was hidden, but
that is not important anymore...
When INSANITY was already on 999.999 , the LOVE had still not found a
place to hide, because there was no one else available , till it found a
rose and, tenderly, decided to hide between its petals.
- One million! - finished couting the INSANITY and beginning to seek.
The first one to show up was the HASTE , only three steps away from the
rock. Then could be heard the FAITH discussing zoology with God in the sky.
Could also be felt the vibrations from PASSION and DESIRE at the volcanos.
By its neglect, the ENVY was found, and the hiding place of the TRIUMPH was
deducted. The SELFISHNESS, there was no need to seek for it; it got out
itself from its hiding place, which was a wasps nest. Because it walked so
much, the INSANITY felt thirsty and when approached to a lake discovered the
BEAUTY. The DOUBT was even easier to find, 'cause it was sitting on a fence,
not knowing which side to choose to hide. .. And then everyone was found:
the TALENT between the fresh plants, the ANGUISH inside a dark pit, the LIE
behind the rainbow and even the FORGETFULNESS , who had already forgotten
that was playing hide-and-seek. Only LOVE wasn't found anywhere...
The INSANITY looked below every rock on the planet, behind every tree,
over every mountain... When was almost giving up, found a rose garden. It
took a stick and began to remove the branches, when suddenly heard a cry .
The thorns had hurt the LOVE in the eyes. The INSANITY didn't know what to
do to apologize. Cried, prayed, begged, said it was sorry, asked for
forgiveness and promised to be its guide for good...
Since then, since the first time that hide-and-seek was played on Earth:
LOVE is blind and INSANITY always goes along with
it."
